 The Year of 2025

  • 01/22 While Seguin FD and other nearby agencies were working on a large structure fire, Sand Hills VFD provided a Brush truck to stage in Seguin to assist SFD with Coverage. 01/26 SHVFD was dispatched for a reported explosion and smell of gas at the 100 block of Pin Oak Lane. Units immediately responded and arrived on scene to find that there not an explosion. However, the propane tank on the property had over pressurized causing the Pressure valve to release and expel propane. The tank was estimated to hold around 200 gallons of propane and had been filled the night before. A Technician was called through the propane company and it was determined that a flaring operation was needed to bleed off the extra pressure. As the technician set up for the flaring operation, a Temporary shelter in place was ordered for a 1 mile radius, hose lines were deployed and positioned to protect structures, and Belmont VFD was dispatch to provided a Tender for additional water as a precaution. The flaring operation took a total of 45 minutes to bring the tank to a safe level. Once the tank was determined safe, the shelter in place order was lifted, and all equipment was returned to the apparatus.

Wilson County ESD 1 and GCFR were requested as early mutual aid due to the high winds occurring that day. Upon arrival personnel found a roughly 5-7 acre brush fire moving quickly to heavier brush. • 03/04 was a day that had single digit humidity, and up to 40 mile an hour winds. These conditions are know to be extremely dangerous, and concerning to firefighters. Captain KB Hallmark IV, and FF/Paramedic KB Hallmark V were providing on duty staffing at the SHVFD when a fire was dispatched at the 100 block of Mesa Trail. Brush 25 quickly responded, along with several other agencies as part of an automatic mutual aid for severe weather. Brush 25 arrived on location and found a fast moving brush fire rapidly growing and had already jumped the road twice. This fire was also threatening the residence of an elderly couple whom were unable to evacuate right away. Brush 25 without personal regard to safety, quickly performed a frontal attack on the head of the fire in order to protect the structure and residents. Conditions during the attack were unfavorable as visibility was next to nothing, thick smoke made it difficult to breath, along with the extreme heat causing small trees to spontaneously combust around Brush 25 and its crew as they fought. Brush 25s crew managed to tame the flames that were heading towards the residence prior to the arrival of any other unit, and continued to assist in creating a safe contained perimeter. Once the perimeter was contained and the major hotspots were extinguished, fire patrols were established through out the night to ensure the fire stayed contained. Captain Hallmark IV ran the weather, and fuel condition data for that day. It was made known that Brush 25s crew should not have survived that extremely dangerous attack they performed as they should have been burned over. (I’m sure the Hallmark family guardian angel was not that happy that day)

Kyle Simpson responded in Engine 5717 and requested GCFR, Seguin FD, and Belmont VFD to respond as mutual aid. Upon E17s arrival Lt. • 05/09 SHVFD was dispatched for a small brush fire in the 2500 block of Vivroux Ranch Road. Units responded quickly and were notified that the fire was actually almost 15 acres in size and rapidly growing. Seguin FD, Belmont VFD, and GCFR were Requested Immediately given the size of the fire. Upon Brush 25s arrival it was found that the fire was seated deep in heavy brush and in an area where responding brush trucks were having difficult accessing due to terrain features. Belmont VFD commandeered a neighbors tractor to cut a containment line around the fire. It was determined that additional manpower was going to be needed due to the terrain and heat, so Nixon VFD, Luling VFD, and GC Road and Bridge were called to also provide assistance. Units were able to get containment and it was determined that SHVFD would perform fire patrols through the night to assess and extinguish hotspots.
